Year One Done!

What strikes me about the year gone, is how quickly time flew by! An indication of how busy it has been for Viatel as we underwent structural and portfolio changes. And for me personally as I went about telling the Viatel story to many different customers across many different industries.

After all……I do like to talk!

Before joining Viatel I worked in large corporate environments for many years. I had many roles in those years but all of them customer-facing, a conscious decision. My employers, like all organisations over the last 10-15 years, underwent massive change during my tenure but one thing remained constant, the customer.

No matter who we work for, the customer should be at the heart of all of our decision making. Without satisfied customers we don’t have a viable business and that is true of all organisations no matter what their size.

I made another conscious decision when I joined Viatel. I wanted to work for a smaller Irish organisation that was more agile and could respond quickly to ever changing customer needs. Larger corporate organisations can often get bogged down in bureaucracy and red tape. Hierarchical structures can often stymie business development and things happen much more slowly and often not within the customer times-lines. I wanted to join an organisation where it was easier to get things done.

Viatel is proving to be that organisation!

Viatel build and maintain their reputation by working hard for the customer to deliver technical solutions that address their pain points and transform their business. We underpin this with a support proposition that meets and exceeds the customers’ expectations. This is not just the Account Manager’s role but everyone in the organisation. We all have a part to play. It takes more than one person to win a customer and it absolutely takes more than one person to retain that customer.

The year has taught me a lot of things. I made the right decision. Viatel are a great team of people all working towards the same goal. We are not going to win everything we bid for but we will learn from those we don’t win. It’s all about the team effort and it is the team that win business.
