On the evening we were joined by Paul Rellis, CEO of Viatel who opened up the event and discussed the re-positioning of Viatel within the Irish Market. Viatel a homegrown, Irish and independent company are moving in a new direction and leading the way in the Software-Defined Wan and SD-Cloud space. As disruptors in the market Viatel have a vision of becoming “The BEST at Cloud and Connectivity”.
Our interactive event saw audience participation being award (bribed) with bottles of Teeling’s Whiskey in turn for answering questions and partaking in live demos.
Following on we were joined by Damien McCann, Director of Sales and Marketing at Viatel. McCann highlighted the power of technology to assist the journey to a digital world. Referencing Viatel’s ability to bring 100Mbps of connectivity to the remote island of Inis Meain – a video case study was shown highlighting the inefficiencies of the National Broadband Plan which has left the Inis Meain Knitting Company waiting 10+ years for a solution –they would still be waiting had Viatel not stepped in and delivered connectivity in less than 6 weeks from quote to delivery. Moving on McCann then demoed an in-house power software tool “Pro Vision” to highlight Viatel’s capabilities to determine the availability of connectivity service offerings for companies based off of their eircode. Within seconds this live demo highlighted the different connectivity options available to one of our customers, Nostra.
Tom Long, Head of Technical Strategy of Cisco then took over the stage to run through SD-WAN and intent-based networking for the branch and WAN. Viatel’s Director of Cloud Solutions, Eilish O’Connor, then proceeded to run through Viatel’s thoughts on SD-Cloud, SD WAN and SD Security alongside highlighting many of the benefits such as cost reductions, rapid deployment & Scale and security enhancements.
To conclude the evening of speakers we were joined by presidential candidate and entrepreneur, Sean Gallagher. Sean delivered an insightful and empowering speech on indigenous businesses in Ireland and the power of the Irish community to strive for better.
As our speakers drew to an end, there was intense excitement as the whiskey tasting drew nearer! All of our customers ventured off to do the tour of the Teeling’s Distillery, followed by some whiskey tasting, fantastic food and a night of craic agus ceoil.
A huge thank you to everyone for their continued support of Viatel. See you next time!
