Viatel declares war on Technobabble, 15th March 2004
LONDON, 15 March 2004 - Viatel declares war on Technobabble
Viatel, the pan-European communications company has released a dictionary of the most commonly used Internet jargon to help mid-sized UK businesses to better understand the IT purchasing decisions they need to make, and shift their perception of IT from burden to benefit.
Research carried out by Viatel prior to its re-launch as a provider of communications services to businesses this January, revealed that many purchasing authorities within mid-sized firms have little or no formal IT training and act as "IT managers by default". The Technobabble dictionary has been written to help dispel any confusion caused by the proliferation of acronyms and jargon within the IT and telecoms industry.
"We\'ve written this booklet to throw open the doors on technobabble and let business start making decisions based on understanding rather than bafflement." Lucy Woods, CEO of Viatel remarked.
Viatel believes that European mid-sized businesses have been short changed by the telecoms and IT industry. The market for telecoms and data among large mid sized businesses - 100 to 1000 employees - alone in Europe is set to grow by 21% to £23.5 billion by 2005/6 according to Analysys. However this market will remain underserved unless the industry makes the effort to understand the needs of these businesses.
Viatel operates across six European markets, including the UK, France and Germany. It helps businesses of all sizes to securely connect their people and places, manage their webs applications and increase the security of their data.
The Technobabble Dictionary can be downloaded free of charge from www.viatel.com/technobabble. Hard copies may be obtained by writing to Technobabble c/o Blue Rubicon, Burwood House, 14 - 16 Caxton Street, London SW1H 0QT
