
Lucy Woods- CEO, Viatel Group
Lucy was appointed CEO of Viatel Holding (Bermuda) Limited in
May 2003. Under her leadership, Viatel developed two business
models, the first a business focused on providing IP based services
to SME customers in Switzerland and the UK, the second, offering
high speed bandwidth services, dark fibre and collocation to
customers with large capacity requirements across Europe. Viatel
has continued to deliver significant revenue growth every year
since 2003. The Group is financed principally by Morgan Stanley
& Co. and Varde Partners.
Prior to Viatel, Lucy was CEO for WorldCom (Europe, Middle
East and Africa) where she was credited with creating the first
cash flow-positive pan-European alternative carrier. Lucy also held
numerous operational, service and marketing roles over an 18-year
career with BT. She has worked for Sir Ian Vallance as executive
support and, in her final role with the company, was CEO of BT
Northern Ireland & Republic of Ireland.
Lucy holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial
College in London, and began her career as an engineer with British
Aerospace. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Marketing and an
Associate of the City & Guilds Institute. She was a member of
the Patten Commission for Policing in Northern Ireland, and is
currently the Chairperson for the Institute of Telecommunications
Professionals.
